Licor 43 comes in four distinct flavors that you can drink straight or in a cocktail. Let’s dive deeper into what this delicious liqueur is all about and try some recipes.
What Is Licor 43?
Have you heard of Licor 43? It is a Spanish Liqueur that has a sweet vanilla flavor with hints of citrus and spices. It has a 31 ABV and is all natural (but for a little coloring to keep the bright yellow color).
The blending of 43 herbs and spices adds a delightful level to your drinking experience. It is light and sweet but as you will see it mixes well with a variety of things.
They Keep It In The Family
The story goes that over 2,000 years ago came the inspiration for Licor 43 (called Liquor Mirabilis) in Cartagena Spain. Licor 43 Original was developed in 1946 by the Zamora family.
To this day the Licor 43 ingredients are kept under lock and key. The only hints we have are that the recipe includes vanilla, lemon, orange, tea, and coriander.
Today Licor 43 comes in four flavors but the other three flavors’ base is Licor 43 Original. The original is the best-selling export liqueur in Spain to this day. Here are the other three.
Licor 43 Horchata
With a 16 ABV, the original recipe adds to it horchata, tiger nuts, citrus, and spices. This drink is best served chilled over ice.
Licor 43 Baristo
This Caffeinated version of Licor 43 adds coffee to the original flavor. It boasts a 31 ABV and tastes like a chocolaty coffee with a mild vanilla and fruity taste. Best served chilled over ice.
Licor 43 Chocolate
With a 16 ABV, they take the original and add cocoa to make a delicious blending of vanilla, chocolate, citrus, and other spices to create a symphony in your mouth. Serve chilled over ice.
Licor 43 Nutrition – Is Licor 43 Gluten Free?
Yes, Licor 43 is gluten-free and Keto friendly. All but the Licor 43 Chocolate is dairy free as well. However, don’t think this delectable liqueur is low-calorie. It boasts 103 calories per ounce.
Does Licor 43 Go Bad Once It Is Open?
Per the manufacturer, it is best to consume your bottle of Licor 43 within 6 months of opening. You can get a little more time out of it if you keep it in the freezer.
Silly Question: Have You Read the Aeneid by Virgil?
This seems like a silly question but I am asking because if you did you will recognize a quote from this Latin Poem.
On every bottle of Licor 43, it says “Fama Volat” which means ‘Rumor Has Wings”. It is said that the family believes that the success of the brand is due to its large group of fans.
