Tips For Making Fresh Watermelon Cocktails All Year Long

Summer is watermelon season for us here in Michigan. But what do you do when you crave fresh watermelon in the winter?

Watermelon Cocktail Recipes start with fresh watermelon
Fresh Watermelon

I know in my house most of the watermelon gets eaten right away, but then there are always one or two slices left that get old.

A great idea to avoid wasting watermelon is when you get home immediately cut 2 slices and cube it. Put it on a flat sheet in your freezer until it is frozen and then place it in a large freezer bag.

Continue to add to this freezer bag with small amounts of watermelon cubes all summer long. Once one bag is full I will start another.

By the time winter rolls around you will be able to thaw this and use this fresh frozen watermelon for your watermelon cocktail recipes.

My Favorite Watermelon Cocktail Recipe

Before I give you this recipe I must share the experience with you.

Caribbean Beach view
Beautiful St. Maarten beach view

Picture this (actually, look at the picture above, we were right there!) We were on our favorite Island, St. Maarten, and one of our favorite beaches, Grand Case.

I just applied sunscreen and was ready to order my first drink of the day when our friend Jason came walking up with this pretty cocktail. He asked if I wanted a taste and of course, I did!

He explained it was a concoction with fresh watermelon, salted caramel vodka, and lime juice. That didn’t sound like a delicious Caribbean beach cocktail to me but of course, I had to try it.

This drink blew me away. The tastes all blended together in a magical way. Jason gave me his drink and went directly back to the bar to order another one for himself (what a great guy!)

Once we got back to Michigan we were so excited to share this recipe with our friends that I promptly went out to purchase the ingredients.

Of course good, fresh watermelon is hard to come by in the winter so I bought a bottle of Simply Watermelon (that stuff is pretty good).

Try this recipe, I hope you are as blown away as we were.

I really like this recipe because, with a little tweak, you can make it non-alcoholic so anyone who doesn’t drink alcohol can enjoy this deliciousness with you.

FYI, it is safe to feed your dog watermelon but they can’t have the seeds or the rind.
