When was the last time you had a jello shot? If you enjoy them as I do you may be wondering how you can make the best jello shots of your own. I have been searching to find the best-tasting Jello Shots and I think you will like them.
Sweet Jello Shots
I enjoy my drinks on the sweet side, so it was no wonder these colorful little treats were a hit with me. My first time trying one was on a party bus heading to a concert.
In the beginning, when I would have a jello shot or two all I could remember was the smell of sweet flavors like cherry or lime. However, once I sucked it down it tasted like cherry rubbing alcohol.
Even though the taste wasn’t great I still reached for another. I found out later that people would use the cheapest alcohol they could find because who cared? (Well, I did!)

When I first started making them I thought you only used vodka. It didn’t take long to realize that you can use any alcohol but one thing to consider is that some of the spirits give off a stronger taste.
Don’t be afraid to use different mixers as well. Those flavors add to the fun!
I have been collecting jello shot recipes for over 15 years. I’m always on the hunt for marvelous new concoctions for everyone to enjoy. Some of them have even become a favorite with friends and family.
Can There Be Silly Questions About Jello Shots?
I had a friend once tell me “I have a silly question about Jello Shots.” (She couldn’t figure out how to get it out of the container without a spoon.)
“How do you eat a Jello Shot?” Here is what works for me. I will loosen the edges with my tongue. Then I will just slurp it down. I follow the rule to never use your fingers! (Ewww, where have those fingers been?)
I usually hear “Are Jello Shots strong?” The answer for the Jello Shots that I make is yes, sort of. I try to make them a little strong, but not too strong as to ruin the taste (and because if you use too much alcohol they won’t set up).
Another question is “Will Jello Shots melt?” In short, yes! I always make sure when traveling with them that they are well iced.
Jello Shot Tips
I will show you how I make some of my favorites and give you some tips on how to create your own tasty Jello Shots. For my recipes, you can always substitute your favorite brand of alcohol according to your taste and wallet.
Here are some extra tips before you begin
- When using vodka I prefer Kettle One but many people love Titos. When I use white rum I frequently use Bacardi.
- I use 2-ounce jello shot cups and lids. But feel free to use what you like. However, make sure your cup size isn’t too deep. Some people have short tongues.
- I put my alcohol in the freezer prior to mixing. It helps the shots set up quicker.
- If you are concerned with sticking, you can take a small amount of cooking spray and place it in the bottom of the cup. Then dab it so it is barely there.
- It is a great idea to make your jello shots a few days in advance as they will be good for up to 4 days after mixing when in constant refrigeration. If you are in a hurry to make them for an event the same day try placing them in the freezer after mixing. (However, I don’t like this way as my shots seem gummier).
- I bring out a cookie sheet (or two) before I start. When I finish filling my shots I place them on the cookie sheet to refrigerate. This makes them easier to get in and out of the refrigerator. They are easily stackable too!
- If you want to make some Jello Shots without alcohol you can substitute water or juice for the alcohol portion. I always make sure to label these special so you have no confusion

Berry Blue Jello Shots

Berry Blue Jello Shots
Equipment
Ingredients
- 3 oz Berry Blue Jello
- 1 cup Boiling Water
- 3/4 cup Cold Vodka The better the vodka the better the shots
- 1/4 cup Cold Water
Instructions
- Bring water to a boil and mix in the Jello package until completely dissolved
- Stir in the cold vodka and cold water. (Be sure they are both COLD)
- Pour immediately into shot cups and place lids on top
- Refrigerate for a minimum of 4 hours
Kamikaze Jello Shots

Kamikaze Jello Shots
Equipment
- 1 Jello Shot Cups and Lids Package
Ingredients
- 3 oz Lime Jello package
- 3 oz Lemon Jello package
- 1 1/2 cups Vodka The better the vodka the better the shots
- 1/2 cup Triple Sec
- 1 cup Sweet and Sour Mix Chilled
- 1 cup Water Cold
Instructions
- Bring vodka and triple sec to a barely boil.
- Stir in both jello shot packages until completely dissolved
- Stir in the cold sweet and sour mix as well as the cold water
- Pour immediately into your shot cups and put lids on them
- Refrigerate for a minimum of 4 hours
Cherry Cuba Libre Jello Shots

Equipment
Ingredients
- 3 oz Cherry Jello Don't use Black Cherry if possible
- 1 cup Coke Boiling Coke
- 1/2 cup Coke Cold Coke
- 1/2 cup Bacardi White Rum
Instructions
- Bring Coke to just barely a boil then stir in Jello until dissolved.
- Add cold Coke and cold Rum and stir
- Pour immediately into shot cups and put lids on
- Refrigerate for a minimum of 4 hours

Ingredients
- 6 oz Orange Jello
- 1 1/2 cup Boiling water
- 1/2 cup Cold Water
- 1 cup Peach Schnapps
- 1 cup Vodka *Chilled (the better the Vodka the better the shots will taste
Instructions
- Bring 1 cup of water to boil then stir in Orange Jello until dissolved.
- Add 1/2 cup cold water, Peach Schnapps, and vodka then stir until well blended
- Pour immediately into shot cups and place lids on them
- Refrigerate for a minimum of 4 hours

Ingredients
- 3 oz Orange Jello Package
- 1 cup Cranberry Juice 100% Juice
- 3 oz Peach Schnapps (pre-chill if possible)
- 5 oz Vodka The better quality vodka will result in a better shot (chill if possible).
Instructions
- Bring Cranberry juice to a barely boil then stir in the Jello until dissolved.
- Add cold water, cold Peach Schnapps, and cold vodka and stir until well blended
- Pour immediately into shot cups and refrigerate for a minimum of 4 hours
