Experience One of My Favorite Gathering Places
Have you ever experienced the delightful cocktails at The Laundry in Fenton Michigan? If so you will know why this is one of my favorite gathering places!
In the beginning, The Laundry was a small little sandwich shop that had freshly prepared food, drinks, bread, and treats.
I can’t remember the first time I visited The Laundry in downtown Fenton Michigan. I would venture a guess that it was around 20 years ago.
Fast forward to today, people from all over Michigan know of this fine dining farm-to-table experience.
My number one experience though comes from their cocktails. It is the place to be for the hottest new and classic drinks. You also can get fantastic beer and wine as well.
My Favorite Bartender
We started spending more time at the Laundry when our son, Mike was a bartender there in college. They had a drink menu that would tempt every taste and satisfy every palate.
We would sit at The Laundry’s bar with this incredible ambiance and watch him create these amazing concoctions mixed with items I had never heard of.
His passion was contagious. He always talked us into trying out this new drink or beer they had just got in. It didn’t take much arm-twisting as we loved the delicious mixtures he created for us.
Time For Some Delightful Cocktails at The Laundry
Today I met up with Em the head bartender for a little ‘Happy Hour’ show and tell.
I was truly amazed by the large array of items behind the bar used to craft the boozy refreshments. There are so many more items than in years past.
I sat at the bar and Em asked about some of my favorite mixed drinks. My list was long.
She was very passionate about her job and told me about the talented mixologists on her staff. I thought it was awesome that these young people created some of the finely crafted concoctions that we all enjoy so much.
Em shared with me The Laundry’s new cocktail menu and we discussed a few of the options before I made my choice (it was a tough decision).
Smooth Notes From The Box Radio at The Laundry?
I decided on a drink called Box Radio. It was created by one of the bartenders Char. It is made with vodka, which I always have on hand, but after that most of the other ingredients are not something you would have at your home bar.
Em started with Wheatley Vodka, then added blackberry liqueur, Green Chartreuse, rosemary syrup, celery bitters, and lime juice. Em mixed it in a shaker and strained it into a martini glass. To my amazement Em did something totally crazy – she took a sprig of rosemary and burned the edges and placed it atop my drink.
I must tell you the smell of the charred rosemary coupled with the smooth taste of the drink was pure perfection! It is right on top of my favorites list now.
While I sat sipping my Box Radio I watched the bartenders mixing other drinks for the afternoon patrons. I added a few ‘To Try’ items to my list for a future visit. I will share them with you now
Want A Taste of the Tropics? Try Rum H.A.M.
This drink has Plantation Dark Rum, then they added Aperol. Aperol is an Italian Liqueur that has a slightly bitter orange taste and color. Next, they added Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur. This is made by blending cherries as well as their stems and leaves and has a sweet and slightly bitter taste. Then they add honey, pineapple, and lime. They finish it with smoked sea salt. (Who thinks to smoke sea salt?)
You could close your eyes and pretend you are sitting on a beach somewhere warm to get the full enjoyment out of this drink as my barstool neighbor told me.
Who Doesn’t Love a Good Cosmo in Fenton?
Cosmo’s are a favorite of mine, if made well. The Laundry never disappoints me with a regular Cosmo but today one of the bartenders was making it with a twist- Raspberries for one of my barstool neighbors.
The Raspberry Cosmo starts with Wheatley Vodka and Cointreau. Cointreau is an orange liqueur similar (but much better than triple sec). Next, they added raspberry syrup and lemon-lime simple syrup.
My neighbor ordered a second one because the first was so good. I watched as multiple Cosmo’s were made for other customers as well.
The October Cocktail Special at The Laundry in Fenton
I asked Em if they had a special for the month and she started telling me about Beetlejuice.
This creation has a very fresh juice-like taste and it was suggested to only order it if I am not opposed to the flavor of beets. I am not a beet fan so I didn’t try it but I am hoping to take a sip from a friend in the future.
Beetlejuice is made with Reposado Tequila, roasted beet jalapeno shrub, fresh lemon juice, and ginger syrup. It is a big fan favorite so it is no surprise I watched quite a few of them being made.
Try the Remarkable Phoenix Cocktail
This uniquely remarkable cocktail begins with muddled mint. They then add American Liquor Company Vodka, Benedictine (which is a herbal liqueur flavored with berries, flowers, and other herbs and spices), raspberry syrup, lime juice, and Organic cucumber soda.
This drink was created by Gillian and Em and is very popular.
I Need To Try More Delightful Cocktails at The Laundry
As I’m writing this article it became apparent as I noticed my mouth watering, that I need another visit (or twelve) to try more drinks (and retry a few).
